Peace
A just and peaceful society is the foundation for sustainable development. That’s why we are committed to working in conflict zones, creating possibilities for the people there.
A just and peaceful society is the foundation for sustainable development. That’s why we are committed to working in conflict zones, creating possibilities for the people there.
According to the UN, 120 million people worldwide are forced to leave their homes due to war, violence, or political persecution. Without peace in their own country, many people have no prospects for the future.
In South Sudan, for example. In one of the poorest countries in the world, years of armed conflict and civil war have led to great instability. For children and young people, this means the worst: schools have been destroyed and many children have been conscripted as child soldiers. The school enrolment rate in South Sudan is one of the lowest in the world. That is why we promote peace. Because education is not possible without peace. If the way to school is not safe, no child can go to school. And without education, the future looks bleak.
We are committed to ensuring that more and more people worldwide have a peaceful environment, providing a chance for a future free from poverty. We see peace not only as the absence of war but also as a reduction of violence and respect for human rights.
Peace training
Through peace training, for example in South Sudan, rival clans can make peace, ending decades-long feuds and restoring harmony. Thanks to "Sports for Peace," young people learn essential values of teamwork and unity. Through sports, they come to understand the importance of peaceful interactions with one another.
Mitigate conflicts
In disasters, conflicts, or wars, it is crucial that all aid promotes peace and does not unintentionally escalate conflicts. For example, we support the local population in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighboring countries put a strain on the community. Providing help to everyone is therefore essential.
Inclusion
Peace can only exist when human rights apply to everyone. That’s why we work to ensure, for example, that girls in Bangladesh are not married off as children and that people with disabilities in Peru have access to education and training. In all our projects, we include people from marginalized ethnic groups.
They learn how to resolve conflicts without violence and to mediate between different parties.
They are trained to maintain peace in their region. In local and armed conflicts, they mediate and are respected by all parties.
Both men and women learn how they can help reduce violence against women and girls. This allows girls to attend school more often and prevents early marriage.
