About us

learn all about ena

ena is very simple: simply donor-friendly, simply transparent and simply effective. Behind it are people with passion - and over 40 years of experience.

Values

We act courageously.

We base our actions on the principle of Christian charity. This allows us to be courageous, at eye level with our counterparts and open and respectful towards all people.
  • Courage

    We boldly amaze.
    We make bold solutions easy.

We act. Now. Consistently. For changes that have a lifelong impact and create prospects. We passionately invite people to courageously seize these prospects themselves and shape their future.

  • Eye level

We enrich through mutual respect, fostering a sense of community.

Wherever we are, we are committed to building sustainable communities based on equal footing. We achieve this through our closeness and expertise, making it enriching for everyone involved.

  • Respect

We respectfully open up free spaces. We are authentic, consistent and respectful.

Authentic and consistent – that’s who we are. Out of respect and without distinction, we extend the same to others. This creates spaces where everyone can act and grow with self-determination.

History

Constant change.

"Allianz-Hilfe Schweiz" – This was the name of the organization founded in 1984 that later became TearFund and most recently ena. After some challenging early years with projects around the world, the organization focused its efforts and changed its name to TearFund Schweiz (The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund) with a new look.

The ongoing professionalization of TearFund Switzerland led to the organization receiving the ZEWO quality label in 2008. This achievement allowed it to secure funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Over time, the organization evolved into a well-established partner in emergency and disaster relief, as well as international development cooperation. TearFund Switzerland maintains close collaboration with various local partner organizations and engages actively in multiple networks.

In the following years, TearFund Switzerland remained true to its values, which have stayed almost unchanged since its founding. At the same time, the organization increasingly adapted to the digital future and a changing donor market. This transformation became visible externally just in time for its 40th anniversary, when the organization adopted the striking new name ena and unveiled a completely new visual identity. True to its new motto: "Act boldly. Shape the future."

FAQ

Clear answers to frequently asked questions

  • ena is primarily a resonant name that sounds like "us." During its development, we derived ena from the educational concept of "enactive" (understanding facts through one's own actions). This aligns perfectly with our working approach, where our project partners and we grow as learning organizations through action. Similarly, people involved in projects are empowered/activated/released through their own actions. In Malawi, ena means something like "the neighbor" or "the other."
