Livelihoods
Secure livelihoods are the foundation for self-determined development. The people in our projects earn their own income, creating new possibilities together.

Would this be a better translation: Over 700 million people worldwide live in extreme poverty. This means they have no leeway to make changes. They live day to day and have no chance to improve their lives.
A look at Africa illustrates the problem: in Malawi, 80 percent of people live from agriculture. Their livelihoods are threatened by poor harvests. Increasingly extreme weather conditions with periods of drought and flooding are causing many people to go hungry. The consequences are dramatic: families lack the money to invest in the future. Often there is not even enough to send the children to school. As a result, they remain trapped in poverty and face a difficult future.
Our goal is a society in which every person can live a self-determined and dignified life. A good basic education and an income that allows investment in the future create the basis for this and open up possibilities.
Agriculture
Through agricultural training, farmers can improve their yields. For example, in Malawi, people learn how to produce fertilizer using locally available materials. They are taught how to grow seedlings, care for fruit trees, and save their own seeds for the following year.
Savings and lending groups
In Zambia, Malawi, Uganda and Bangladesh, we successfully promote savings and lending groups. In Zambia, for example, members put a few centimes into the common fund every week. This money makes it possible to make investments that generate a profit and thus increase the savings contributions. Many parents use their savings to pay their children's school fees. This enables children to finish school.
Vocational training
In Peru and Malawi, we promote vocational training for young people. In Peru, students are introduced to various trades as early as secondary school. Our partner organizations work to improve training opportunities in rural areas, providing young people with alternatives to studying in the big city or pursuing agriculture. This improves the economic situation of families and the entire region.
Small farmers learn in a practical way how to use their skills, accessible tools, and materials to increase their yields.
The money saved together enables investments in the future.
In this way, they set an important course for a self-determined life.
