More than just a piece of fabric

A piece of fabric is more than a piece of woven yarn, more than its pattern, shape and color. A piece of fabric also means breaking a taboo for Jumah, an income for Halima and a home for Khalifa's family.

Income, breaking taboos, home

Together, we achieve great things: As an aid organization, ena unlocks people's potential by creating comprehensive foundations for a hopeful future with your support.
Uganda: a schoolgirl sews a reusable cloth bandage

Uganda

Breaking a taboo

Jumah Patrick Wangira, head of our partner organization: "It is important that we men know about the topic - that way we become better husbands and fathers."

Many girls miss a considerable amount of school. The reason: they stay at home during menstruation because they cannot afford sanitary towels. Our education project has now found a creative solution - with positive side effects: In class, the pupils learn how to sew reusable cloth pads themselves; the girls receive these and no longer have to wait at home. And the side effects? The children pass on what they have learned and some can earn money with it. The shame and taboo surrounding the topic of menstruation is gradually disappearing. A simple idea that promotes education, generates income and breaks taboos.

Help now and give girls access to education.

Bangladesh

One income

Halima Akter: "I took part in a tailoring course. There I not only learned how to use a needle and thread, but also how to set up my own small business."

With every stitch she makes, her hope of one day being able to support her family with her tailoring and create a new, hopeful future for herself grows. She now earns enough to cover household expenses and pay her younger siblings' school fees.

Enable other girls in Bangladesh to get an education and thus escape poverty.

Sudan

A home

Khalifa Maki Hassan's wish: "To return home with my family and build a new life there."

Unfortunately, this is not yet possible. A brutal war is raging in Sudan. Khalifa's family has suffered terrible months with heavy losses in the family. For weeks, Khalifa's family have been living in wind-torn fabrics and blankets stretched against a metal wall. The refugee camp is completely overcrowded and lacks everything.

Donate hope in the form of food, drinking water, and blankets for people in need.
