From tension to strength

Hope and realism seem to be opposites: hope radiates confidence and shows possibilities, while realism demands a clear view of the facts. But it is precisely in this tension that their strength lies - together they form the basis for resilience.

A realistic view is indispensable for us. It keeps us grounded, prevents
from blind illusions and helps us to make the best possible decisions. But realism alone would not be enough. Without the hope that change is possible, it would lead to resignation. Hope gives us the energy we need to rise above ourselves and act even when the path is uncertain.

Persevering towards change
Is it difficult to master this balancing act? Yes. Does everything always work out as
we planned? No. But that doesn't stop us from taking bold steps. We experience it: You can make a positive difference. These are not miracles, but the results of perseverance, cooperation and a clear attitude. And yet there are those moments when the seemingly impossible succeeds - moments that remind us why we must not give up.
must not give up.

Seize the opportunity
I met Peter Mabonga Okuku in Uganda. He used to earn too little for his family and felt powerless. The prospects seemed bleak. He told me:

"I was a fisherman and an employee in a store and saw how difficult it is to really make a profit."

Uganda: Peter Mabonga Okuku learns how to run a business at a business course
A rich harvest and good marketing: thanks to a business course, Peter Mabonga Okuku learned how to run a business.

Then he seized his chance to attend a business course run by the ena partner organization CaRNaC.

"I learned bookkeeping, how to calculate expenses and how to rely on multiple sources of income. That gave me the courage to start my own business."

Today, Peter fishes together with a few employees. He has also built up his mobile money business and employs staff there too. The family man passes on his courage and hope. His children can now all get an education. Peter has been given hope that a good future is possible. What you count on influences the reality you shape. At ena, we count on change. A path is created by walking it. Hopefully and realistically.

Peter Mabonga Okuku now has a fishery with several employees. His income is enough to pay for his children's education.
