Since 2017, over a million Rohingyas have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh. However, the people there also live in severe poverty in an area often affected by natural disasters.
The constant influx of refugees is putting immense pressure on the local population in the Cox’s Bazar region. This area is frequently hit by natural disasters. As a result, not only the refugees but also the host community residents are now dependent on humanitarian aid. They were already poor, but the arrival of the Rohingya refugees has worsened their situation and strained relations between the two communities. Two million people in this area face a difficult future and are in urgent need of assistance.
Better food supply
In the refugee camps and host communities, there is a severe lack of food. The most vulnerable members of society are especially dependent on it. We provide emergency food aid for everyone, with a particular focus on pregnant and breastfeeding women and their children.
Improved access to clean water
Where many people live in confined spaces, epidemic diseases are more likely to occur. To prevent this, we provide improved access to clean water and build sanitary facilities. We also support people with hygiene products and practical training.
Promoting peaceful coexistence
In the project region, different groups of people, including local residents and refugees, come together. The fact that everyone is in an emergency situation quickly leads to tensions between them. We promote peaceful coexistence and build trust between the host communities and the Rohingya refugees through events such as theater performances on topics like human rights and equality
