Conflict escalation in eastern Congo: ena launches emergency aid

Not knowing how you will be able to feed your children tomorrow, where you will be safe and what to do next. These inhumane circumstances are currently a bitter reality for many refugees in eastern Congo.

Even before the violent fighting in January 2025, the living conditions in Goma, North Kivu, were disastrous. The recent riots make them unbearable. The fighters of the armed group M23 conquered the megacity of Goma in January 2025 and left behind a scene of destruction. More than half a million people fled without water, food or any prospect of shelter.

"The situation for the civilian population is extremely worrying. The humanitarian situation has deteriorated massively. Many people were only able to flee with the clothes they were wearing and a day's ration of food. "

Myriam Warmers, Humanitarian Aid Program Manager at eina, reports this in an interview with Radio Life Channel

Together with our locally based partner organization ZOA, we are now launching an emergency aid project for the most disadvantaged. Emergency aid coordinator Myriam Warmers says: "At the moment, we are trying to alleviate acute suffering and save lives with emergency aid projects."

Staying healthy: 10,000 displaced and injured people are given access to clean filtered water, which is purchased by truck and distributed in water containers. This prevents water-borne diseases.

Survival: We support 800 particularly affected families so that they can purchase essential goods such as food, hygiene products or bedding independently. This aid gives people a bit of independence and dignity in the midst of the crisis.
